What Does ‘Discovery’ Mean? We are learning what discovery means in the Discovery Center. I think discovery means that I am finding something, or learning something new. In the Discovery Center I am doing something called Voki. It is basically creating an avatar and talking about discovery. It only has one minute to talk, and it is on the computer. In my picture I am looking in the grass for something to discover. What do you think discovery means?

Crusie Arcade Game -Research Paper: Skeeball Identify the Problem How can we, as Caine has inspired, demonstrate through teamwork our imagination, determination, and passion for creativity and innovation, with our own arcade constructions? Explore What Makes an Effective Professional Arcade Game?I chose the arcade game, Sphere Runner, to see what makes it a professional arcade game. What a person needs to do in order to play this game is fill in all the spheres. A submarine is also known as the Sphere Runner. You try to dodge the fire balls from the yellow shooters in order to fill in the spheres to get to the next level, and also each level becomes harder. The rules of the game are displayed at the bottom of the game. The name of the creator is David Carachelo.
For building the game you would need to have: cardboard so you can build the game, a control so that you can move the submarine so you can fill in the spheres, also a screen so that you know where the submarine is going. It would cost to build about $7 to $9. It would cost $4.99 to buy.
The title of the game is Sphererunner. The URL address is:
http://www.freearcade.com/Sphererunner.jav/Sphererunner.html. Design Brief What Is the Concept Design of My Crusie Arcade Game?
The name of the arcade we are building is Skeeball. You roll the ball and get it in the holes so you can score points that you can convert into tickets! The rules of the game will be displayed on the top of the game. The difficulty of the game is a 1 on a scale of 1-4. You win the game by earning points, and you will get tickets by getting points. If you win the game you will get prizes.
The blueprint shows the side, front, and top. On the side, it is showing dots so that our game is creative and decorative. The top of our game is showing the name; the holes are there for scoring points. On the top of our holes, it says how many points you will score if you get it in one of the holes. It shows a bell so that whenever they score, they will know it. The front of our game is showing the hole, and the hole is there because that is where the balls are coming out.
The materials you would need for the game are tape, cardboard, and scissors. It will take about a month to make it. A problem that we foresee is that the tape might not hold onto the cardboard.

Praise: Great design – large open; the chute is fun, it is fun to play/ whiffle balls are good choice.
Question: How do we catch the 100 point scores?
Polish: Can we attach a net behind the 100 to catch the balls?
Student Comment: Thank you for complementing my game, Skee Ball. I also liked the whiffle balls, too, because the whiffle balls are like bowling balls and can go very far when you roll them. And also I thought the whiffle balls would fit in the hole. We should put something to catch the balls for the 100 point hole. We can put a net under the 100 point hole. So yes, we could attach a net.

Praise: Wow! This is an amazing game! What a great architecture and engineering! We loved the way you have put the ticket dispenser and balls collector!
Question: Have you thought about sidewalls to the scoring board, so the balls don’t fall out?
Polish: Add sidewalls to the scoring board so balls don’t fall out.
Student Comment: Thanks for giving me the thumbs up for my game, Skee Ball. The ticket dispenser was a good idea, and we got that idea in real arcades when the tickets come out of a little ticket hole. Yeah, I thought about putting sidewalls to the score board area. But we wanted to make our game harder because when the ball goes off of the score board area you lose a turn. But I do think that is too hard when the ball goes out of the board and you lose all of your turns, but we did not have time to add sides.

Praise: The game is very fun and I like the buzzer that goes off when you win.
Question: How does the scoring work? It is confusing to know when and how you win.
Polish: I think you could make the scores correspond better with the holes – sometimes the numbers were above the hole and sometimes below.
Student Comment: Thanks for playing my game, and I appreciated that you liked my game, Skee Ball. The buzzer was very cool and the reason I put it there is because we thought that will tell the players that they got 100 points. Also, we put it there because it will make them feel happy. We got the idea from real arcade games. In some of the arcade games there is a sound that goes “ding ding,” and that is how I got the idea of putting something similar to a bell. So then I chose an alarm. We calculate all the scores the players get. The scores were easy to calculate because they were not big numbers. Then we see how many tickets they have. After that, we will see if they get prizes. I know the scores were very confusing because the 10 was very hard to see and people thought the 10 point was 20 points. So I agree that we should make the scores correspond better. But thanks for giving me a great idea.

Make It Better How Can We Make the Crusie Arcade Game Better? Reflection on Project
What can we do to improve our Arcade Creation?
On our game, Skee Ball, we could put sidewalls on the board so that the balls do not go out of the board.
Specifically, how would we do this?
Cut out cardboard and tape it on to the scoring board of our game, Skee Ball.
Reflection on Process
What did you learn to do with the Crusie Arcade Project?
I learned that you could make an arcade game by using cardboard.
What do you know now that you didn’t know before doing the Project?
That it takes a lot of work and effort to make an arcade game out of cardboard.
What can you do know that you couldn’t before doing this project?
I could make cool games out of cardboard.
What did you like about the project that helped your learning?
I liked that we could do whatever game we want and make a cardboard game; also make it look however we want it to look.
What could have been done differently to help your learning?
I could have put a little more effort to make the game to get my learning better.
A Final Reflection:
On our game, Skee Ball, we could put sidewalls on the board so that the balls do not go out of the board. We made the game by cutting out cardboard and taping it on to the scoring board of our game, Skee Ball. That is when I learned that you could make an arcade game by using cardboard. I also learned that it takes a lot of work and effort to make an arcade game out of cardboard. Now I can make cool games out of cardboard. What I really liked about this project was that we could make whatever game we wanted and make it look however I wanted the game to look. How we made it was first we drew what it would look like then cut out the shape on the cardboard. Next we taped it, and finally we colored it. How we came up with the design was we thought how the game would look and then designed it. How we built it was we made it out of cardboard and tape. I really had a great feeling about the building process. The problem that we encountered was that we forgot to add sidewalls. I could have put a little more effort to make the game to get my learning better. I felt that the final project was fun. This was the best project I have ever done!
